project
Last night I tried to work on my project but I found like no information on colonialism...maybe I just kept clicking on the wrong website? Its also a little harder because I'm making my prezi from scratch and am not using a premade template. In my prezi I would like to discuss all of the different literatures we have learned.

Literature Analysis 4 (EXTRA CREDIT)
So, I read a 700 page book called the Academ's Fury which is by Jim Butcher. It is book
BEST OF AMERICAN LIT
I think I have done good on my literature analysis we have done throughout the year, they were also my favorite because they introduced me to new fantasy authors that I have begun reading. As the year has progressed, I have read books by Terry Brooks. In search of finding a new world for adventures to be in, I stumbled across another fantasy author named Jim Butcher. Besides literature analysis, I also enjoyed reading some "interesting" books that we were forced to read, my favorite being.....wait for it.......GATSBY! I feel like whenever I attach myself to a good book, my favorite character dies a horrible death. It was devastating to see Gatsby die by Wilson. Also in Lord of the Flies which I read in 9th grade, Piggy died. That was so sad! Anyways, reading in this course opened my mind up to new literatures, symbols I didn't know existed, and a plethora of exciting characters I have known to love. This year could not have been more splendid!!

Johnney Cyberpunk
This short story is classified as cyberpunk. As we learned in class, cyberpunk is science fiction, or near earth. The creation o things is cyberpunk such as the phrase techne. Techne is when you make things pretty much yourself such as in the short story when he created his own ammunition for his shotgun.Gonzo journalism is different than cyberpunk because its often written in first-person and the reporter puts himself into the story.

great gatsby chapter 6 notes
Mr. Gatsby's real name is JamesGatz. Dan Cody was a friend.... Gatsby locked him up one day so he wouldn't be able to drink which is nice of Gatsby. :) When Cody died, Gatsby inherited 25,000 dollars from him this explains where he got all of his money. I think..... Gatsby threw a party and Tom and Daisy came. Daisy hung out with Gatsby but it seemed very awkward since tom, her husband, was there and he might find out about daisy and Gatsby........

great gatsby notes chapter 5
Nick comes home and finds Gatsby walking towards him. Gatsby tried to make nick like him more and offers him to go swimming or go to an island. In the end, Gatsby wants to have a get together with daisy over some tea which they do at nicks house. Gatsby also sends nick a lawn mower who mows his yard in the rain. Gatsby arrives at nicks house and looks pale like a ghost. He is nervous about the tea time and even nicks over a clock nick owns. After the rain stops, Gatsby suggests that nick and daisy go to his house to hang out.
Well this is what I took in from reading the chapter... ... Enjoy :-D

I AM ERNEST HEMMINGWAY
1) I went to war during WW1 to be an ambulance driver in the Italian army and returned home shortly after. My experiences led me to write some new pieces of literature.
2) While on a safari in Africa, I almost died, but was seriously injured in two plane crashes.
3) I won a Nobel prize in October of 1954, but I really don't think I deserve it. :(
4) While in the Italian army during WW1, I was issued the Italian Silver Medal of Bravery.
5) I was present in WW2 at the D-Day landing. (interesting...)

Modernist Essay
The stories and poems we have read in class are considered modernism. Modernism is a time period from the early 1900s to 1965. Fahrenheit 451 is consedered a Modernist novel because it has a lot of Imagery in it such as the fire hose being described as a serpent. Imagists were the kind of people who don't want syntax. They only want to focus on the thing itself or the image. Richard cory is considered a modernist poem because it has deceptive appearances hiding difficult truths, as said in our lecture. In comparison to Fahrenheit 451, Richard cory, too, has allusions and imagery such as the line, "Clean favored and imperially slim." You can actually imagine how this "character" in the poem might look like. :D The First Seven Years is considered modernist because in the short story, a girl's parents wanted her to go off with a boy that she doesn't want to be with. This scene in the story ties to modernism based upon the idea of difficult truths and also departure from tradition when she doesn't see the boy again....

Modernism
My writing, I think, is different now than it was five years ago because I use more vocabulary words than I did five years ago. I mostly use them to critisize people, but at least my vocabulary has increased! :D I'm not sure how the world has affected me and my writing... I just noticed my vocabulary.

MY MODERNIST
I have chosen to learn about Ernest Hemingway who lived from 1899-1961. In 9th grade, I read a book called Old Man and the Sea which was by him. I would like to learn about him since he is an author I am already familiar with, well, I'm not really familiar with him. I just read one book by him, but I really would like to learn about him, and maybe read one book by him. I hope he is interesting!

I AM HERE
I think i have made progress towards my smart goal which was to read more books. We are only suppose to read three per semester plus more for extra credit. If I read one book a month I can reach my goal of five to six books. :) (A lit analysis is due at the end of the month.)

Essay Post-Game Analysis
I'm not sure I did to well, but I honestly gave it my best efforts and tried to give good examples that supported my thesis. Speaking of a thesis, I would like to go over how to make a great one during class some time because that is what I struggle with the most when writing an essay. On how well mine was written, I would give it a B- or B maybe. On how hard I tried, I would give it an A- :)

A Conversation With People Who Aren't Here
I had a small conversation with Lissette Villalobos. We discussed whether or not Captain Beatty knows or not about the many books in which Montag owns. Here is the conversation:

The Time of My Life
During this class period, I spent it doing my weekend reading. I found it helpful just so I could get some homework out of the way. I feel like other people wern't taking advantage of this time because a lot of people were talking about off topic subjects.

The Peeved Pedestrian
I think when Ray Bradbury wrote
Fahrenheit 451, he wanted to tell us to maybe break the rules a little and be rebellious. When Montag was burning a women's house, the women wanted to stay with her books no matter what and she had hundreds of books in her house. I think she is a rebel for sticking with what she absolutely believes in and this is, I think, what Bradbury wanted to tell us in this book.

I'm a poet and I know it!!! :)
Sorry it took so long to post this. My poem was turned in so I couldn't write it. I just got it returned to me today. Enjoy. :)
Orange, fat, fluffy
Running through the grass he plays.
Twenty pounds
A grey mole sticks his head out from his hole.
Pounce!
The mole cowards back in fear leaving dirt to fill his hole.
Sweet, salty, bitter,
An aroma fills the air.
Going towards the scent his nose travels.
Eyes looking everywhere trying to find the scent.
Running as fast as he can through the door
Large hands reach down to grab him.
Soft strokes brush him slowly
Relaxed...

Fahrenheit 451
1) Bradbury wrote stories on a typewriter that he rented for a fee of ten cents for every half hour. He than wrote a book titled Fireman.
2) Wikipedia says the genre of the novel is dystopian. I've never heard that word until class today. Dystopian is a not perfect society which makes me wonder about the plot of the book...
3) The book is kind of ironic because instead of firefighters butting out fires, they start them. Firemen want to burn books.
4) In the section "Writing and Publishing the Work," Bradbury wrote a story which was published in a science fiction magazine. He writes science fiction stories.
5) The novel is frequently interpreted as being critical of state-sponsored censorship, but Bradbury has disputed this interpretation.......

Theme for English B questions
I don't think i am the person my teachers think I am. I am quiet in some classes so my teachers think I don't talk that much. I work the hardest in swimming, but not quite as much in school. I still work hard though! As I find my place in the world, I can be myself. I mean, who else would I be? I don't feel compelled to keep anything private. I'm an open person and you can talk to me about anything. In classes like math and chemistry, I rely on other people to teach me and tell me what to do, but in this class, English, I can take control of my own learning. There are so many opportunities I can take advantage of and learn something new. Today, just before writing this blog post, I read an article about Missy Franklin that Dr. Preston posted and I found it to be quite interesting. I learned something new and it wasn't an assignment to read. I truely believe that students can take control of their own learning!

Spring Semester Plan
My goal for this class is to read more and get "A"s on my vocabulary quizzes. I would also like to incorporate vocabulary words into my everyday vocabulary. I can get "A"s on my vocabulary quizzes by studying a little bit more. I always studdied for those the period before. i still did fine on the tests, but I really wasn't learning the words, I was just randomly memorizing them. I will study at least two days in advance for these tests, and hopefully the words will come fluently in my speaking. The literature analysis makes me read more so if I do the three each semester, plus some extra credit ones, I will be reading more this semester which will make me happy! :) I like reading, but I just need more time in my life to do so...

Spring Post: Literature
According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/literature it says that:
3 a (1): writings in prose or verse; especially: writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest
Literature are ways people express their feelings, thoughts, or ideas. I think music is a piece of literature and a main way people express their thoughts and feelings.
A novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera, and a symphony are six various ways people express themselves. Novels are stories about people's lives, or the lives of their ideas. I think of songs as being catchy and up beat. Symphonys consist of many instruments playing in perfect unison. If all of these different things were to all do the poem Richard Cory, I'm sure we would get a bunch of different perspectives on that topic. There are many ways people can express themselves and music is definitely one way people do so!
